2006 Review

Time to review what I have done in 2006:

1 year target set in Sept 2005: (before I started in ABN AMRO)

Overall, quite a satisfactory year for me.  Getting really used to work life and able to take a balance between work, family and friends.  And one surprise is that, I find such a lovely and considerate girlfriend, which is not in my target below!

1. Pass CFA Level 1 in Dec 2005 and CFA Level 2 in June 2006

Passed luckily, should also appreciate myself for the limited time that I studied

2. Pass all basic exams for work

Done, but seems that I didn't do any exam....

3. Top 2 graduate trainee among all

4. Positive comments from head when rotation

Difficult to say as we are not ranked and difficult to compare, but do receive quite positive comments from different desks.  Did learn a lot under different rotations.  A potential problem is that knowing much but not in depth....  Need to have a better focus in 2007

5. Widen horizon: e.g. Holland training, strike for travel opportunity

Not really.... apart from Amsterdam and Singapore, basically stayed in Hong Kong.  Had quite some chances to meet management from different clients, but could have strived for more!

6. Confident presentation

Basically no improvement as I have much less opportunites to practice than I expected.

7. Junior management skills

Got some graduates to help me for the past few months.  Not really manage, but to work with them.  Sort of accumulate some experience of management.  Interaction and appreciation is the key.

8. Relationship: Yingtin, Wah Yan, Betterland, Primary School

Yingtin - Quite good, still my best group of friends!

Wah Yan - Improving, able to come out more and join more activities, can feel we all treasure our relationship

Betterland - Probably need to spend more time, not come out often apart from hockey

Primary School - Quite good, a few gatherings every year and able to keep in touch, thanks TPT!

9. Care for family

Can feel that it is improving, especially after Dad has retired.  More chat and interaction, especially when Losa often comes.

10. FRM in November 2006

Never attempted.  Actually quite an ad hoc plan when I set.  Soon know that probably not too useful for me.

No entry for long time already~~  Partly because getting some real stuff to work and cannot leave too early now.  And more because always going out after work and arrive home so late every day.

Programmes every day and every week seem to be very packed.  Like this weekend, played tennis on Saturday and hockey on Sunday.  Haven't really rested a lot.  Every time on Sunday night like now, I would wonder why I haven't taken more rest....  But really quite happy to go out often with you~~  I always believe, life can be very simple and very happy~~

An enjoyable holiday

Just finished a 3-day National Day holiday, a very enjoyable one.

The holiday started with a wedding dinner of a relative who I hardly know.  My family was already all the people I know there.  Together with very ordinary food, the Chinese dinner was just like an ordinary gathering of my family.  But the funny father of the couple made the dinner quite an interesting and strange one.  Can hardly imagine the father (instead of the bridegroom) can sing a love song and dominate the whole event....  The drink with Bettermen afterwards was really a relaxing one.  Haven't stayed and chatted with floor brothers for long time already.  But I really feel that it would also be nice to buy drinks in the convenience store and drink in the park or along the harbour.

Saturday was a visit to Cultural Museum, one of the few museums in Hong Kong that I haven't been to.  Not as much to see as I expected.  Probably Hong Kong really does not have much culture to show.  And have to supplement with a lot of other things, like recent collections, contempary arts....  But still enjoy visiting museums much.

Sunday was a hockey day.  Unexpectedly, we won by 4:1 over KCC, after long time without winning.  Bit of spirit, bit of teamwork and bit of luck.  A pity that I was really late that day....  The pleasant league match was followed by a hokcey practice with the hockey team.  Not really a practice, just a two hour for us to fool around and enjoy on the hockey field.  Really in a totally different environment now.  Can clearly feel the difference between them and me.

The holiday ended with a visit to the Wetland Park, which I have longed to go for long.  Really too too crowded.  And affected my mood to enjoy the nature much.  The grandmas, mums and children were all shouting and yelling everywhere, destroying the peaceful environment.  Really, Hong Kong needs more such kind of natural places.  It's somewhere peaceful for you to enjoy and relax, but not the department store that you go to shop and yell....  Don't know whether it's my bias or not, always feel that Hong Kong is not as good in developing this kind of natural resort or tourist spot, no matter how much money we put in....

Haha, really played a lot this weekend.  That's why I am so tired in office today....  Anyway, that is how weekends should be like, right?

2 months~~

2 months now. Always so happy to be with you~~ Still in office now. Just planned to leave and have to stay a bit longer to wait for you~~

These two weeks, starting to have some real work to do in PIP: backtesting, equity basket building, structure design.... all quite interesting. Really should work hard to learn more! Working hours become more normal now, usually leaving around 7:30. Not bad! I won't like a job that allows me to leave sharp every day.

Five-day work is really good. Can go out for fun every weekend. Still a lot that we should do together! Simple life can really be very happy.

My first healthy exercise for ages - Cycling!

Finally we finished our long talked-about cycling, after being postponed coz of rain last week.

Starting later is really good~~  After having lunch and some of us being late as expected, we started at 3 something today.  The weather was not too good at the beginning and we did struggle a bit whether we should go on.  Lucky that we made the smart decision to go ahead, otherwise we would miss such a good weather for cycling~~

Coz of some problem on my bike, Losa and I had to go back to Tai Po.  After changing the bike, we enjoyed a really pleasant journey to Tai Wai.  Really happy to cycle slowly and chat all the way back under such a nice weather.  Haha, when I told my mum that I had a great cycling trip with my friends, she also said she should go later with my father....  though she doesn't know how to cycle.... haha

Holidays should be like this!
